And while I'm on a rant

Jack Welch is correct. Work and family don't mix. Period.

This is not just for women - this applies to every worker in our country. The United States has not progressed in this regard in the last 50 years. We may think we're much more civilized now because woman work their asses off, try to "balance" family, keep up with the house, cook, and almost make as much as men, but looking at our societal problems, are we more civilized? As you heard me crow about for three years on this forum, jobs in this country expect you to sacrifice any semblence of your family life or spending the final years with a parent to the company's quest for endless profits. Most likely, this has only gotten worse because of the shady business dealings that most large corporations have engaged in which have gotten them in trouble, and increasingly, the employee is the one who must pay for these transgressions.

And what have men gotten in return for this race on the treadmill, ever grasping at the dollar which is always out of reach? I don't believe that men have it as hard as women, but they still are losers, too. Most men spend extra hours, outside of work, away from their family and still never have enough money to be comfortable. That's if they still have a job in this economic climate. Most likely, they have seen any retirement money they may have socked away greatly diminished. If they had anything approaching a comfortable retirement (which an increasingly small percentage of workers have), probably a goodly percentage of it is now gone. And, my best guess is that the Social Security age will increase even more before they get there. We won't even go into the health care bills that they can expect to shoulder if we don't pass meaningful health care reform (the insurance companies are going to make sure nothing of the sort happens). Oh, and I forgot - because the guy sacrificed his family for his job (and as you can tell by this paragraph, has been richly rewarded for this sacrifice), he is now divorced.

Jack Welch is right about this topic, but at least he can probably afford a second trophy wife.
